Funding from local company J.P.Morgan enables partnership with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to create new celebratory song for iconic new landmark.

Pupils from Branksome Heath Middle School in Parkstone Poole have been asked to help Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra create a new piece of music to be played at the official opening of the Twin Sails Bridge in Poole on 9 March 2012.

Generous financial support from J.P. Morgan means that the BSO Children’s Composer Paul Rissmann has been commissioned to compose a short new celebratory overture for the occasion, and the Year 5 pupils will be providing the lyrics and the inspiration for the music.  Paul recently spent a day at the school, talking with the children as they researched the history of Poole - he will now write the music and return to the school later in January to put the two elements together.

One pupil commented ‘I love Poole because it is me, and it is so exciting’.  Another said ‘The new Bridge looks like the X Factor logo, and so it is good that we are writing a song for it’.    Dorcas Williams of J.P. Morgan said ‘We are pleased to support such a creative community project’.

Pupils will sing this brand new piece with the full Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra onstage in front of an audience of thousands in March, as the Borough of Poole celebrates the opening of its much-needed second harbour crossing.  What will the Branksome Heath Middle School pupils come up with as ideas for the new song – wait and see!
