Eva Malmbom
When did you join the BSO?
I joined the BSO in September 2005.
Are you from a musical family?
Although music is being enjoyed by all of us, I'm the only professional musician in my family. My great-grandfather was a fiddler in the Swedish part of Lapland back in the 19th century, and he seems to be the only other family member to have made a living out of music.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I really enjoyed being Assistant Principal Viola of the Colorado Music Festival, and I really enjoyed playing chamber music with the Amati ensemble in Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. But what touched me the most was probably the opportunity to play at the annual Lantern Floating Ceremony in Hawaii this year, when 2000 lanterns were sent off to sea in memory of lost loved ones as well as victims of war and natural disasters - a ceremony that 40,000 people took part and found comfort in.
Which piece of music would you take to a desert island?
It would be one of the late Beethoven string quartets, but I can't possibly decide which one. It would have to be the box set of them all.
Name a musical personality living or dead you would most like to meet.
György Sebök - I met this wonderful pianist as he was teaching at a master class in Switzerland, and he taught not just music, but life. I was young and shy at the time, and would love another opportunity to learn from him, but sadly he passed away.
