Kevin Morgan

What inspired you to take up the trombone?
Only instrument left in school cupboard.

When did you join the BSO?
1987.

Which piece of music do you enjoy playing?
Sibelius 7.

Which piece of music would you take to a desert island?
See above.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What are your hobbies? Cycling, cooking, and learning to play jazz.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Playing music that involves the trombones to a greater extent - Mahler and Sibelius for example - in concert.

What was your earliest musical experience?
Going to see an amateur production of Showboat.

What would you do if you weren’t a musician?
I started off in electrical engineering but would possibly have ended in IT.

What do you like most about living on the South Coast?
The coastal walks, the countryside for cycling and the lovely pubs!

What’s your favourite place to eat for a pre-concert meal?
Amsterdam.

Name a musical personality living or dead you would most like to meet?
Dudley Moore

What are the challenges of playing the trombone?
Being bored stiff most of the time and scared stiff the rest! The hardest thing is to keep your facial muscles feeling consistent - some days your lips feel like they are sensitive enough to belong to Casanova, others they appear to have been used for testing meat tenderizers - either way you still have to make the instrument work.
