Have you always wanted to play in an orchestra?
I wanted to be a doctor when I was growing up but I could never quite come to terms with the idea of giving up the violin. The BSO was important to me as a child as I grew up 6 miles away in Wimborne and watched them perform many times. I've always loved playing in orchestras and was a member of the Dorset and Wessex Youth Orchestras till I was 18. I was therefore over the moon when I was given my job in 1999.
Which piece of music do you enjoy playing?
Anything by Elgar, Brahms and Shostakovich but probably my favourite piece of music is Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. I would love to do a full staged performance of that one day. Oh - and also Abba's Dancing Queen!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What are your hobbies?
My two children take up most of my free time but if I do get some 'time off' (!) I love playing tennis or going for a run.
Does your family come to see you play in concerts?
My mum and dad have been staunch supporters of the BSO for years - long before I joined. They sit up in the choir stalls of Lighthouse enjoying the close proximity to the Orchestra and watching the many faces the various conductors pull!
